The Historical Medical Equipment Society

Janet & Chris Pickles were recently invited to become members of The Historical Medical Equipment Society and on Saturday14th April attended the Annual meeting, held this year at Thackley Medical Museum in Leeds.  Attendees were treated to presentations such as The Price of Victory – medical care, sketches and case reports from Waterloo and a fascinating talk by Margaret Wilson – wife of Professor Nairn Wilson who also attended, on the evolution of the foot-pedal dental drill – complete with example of such!

After lunch, we were able to view behind the scenes of the museum and also wander around the many varied and fascinating exhibits.  The two photographs show Janet with an old Lucy Baldwin machine made by BOC and a snap taken behind the scenes of a really old nasal mask complete with metal exhaling valve – no scavenging then!
