Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know

Common questions about inhalation sedation, our products, and how we work with practices across the UK.

Inhalation sedation is a technique that delivers a controlled mixture of nitrous oxide (N₂O) and oxygen (O₂) through a small nasal mask. Patients remain fully conscious but feel relaxed and less anxious during treatment. The gases are quickly reversible — recovery typically takes only a few minutes after the mask is removed.

R A Medical Services supplies, installs, and services inhalation sedation equipment across the entire UK and Ireland. We work with NHS trusts, dental practices, hospitals, and medical aesthetics clinics. Our engineers travel nationwide for installations, routine servicing, and emergency callouts.

We install everything we supply. Our qualified service engineers handle the complete install — from the flowmeter and gas piping through to commissioning and staff training. You do not need any specialist tools or in-house expertise. For sedation packages, we can typically complete an install in a single day.

Prices vary by model. A standard Analogue MDM flowmeter typically starts around £1,500 ex VAT, while a Digital Ultra flowmeter is in the £3,500-£4,500 range. Full sedation packages (flowmeter, scavenger, breathing system, and cylinders) start at around £4,500 ex VAT. For current pricing, contact our sales team at sales@ramedical.com or call 01535 652444.

We are the UK and Ireland sole distributor for Accutron (digital and analogue flowmeters, scavengers, nasal masks) and Porter Instrument (Porter Midas, Quantiflex MDM, Porter Brown, Silhouette). We also distribute Matrx flowmeters and stands, and the Miniscav active scavenger.

Yes. Our service engineers are trained on the full range of Porter, Accutron, and Matrx sedation equipment, regardless of original supplier. We can carry out routine servicing, repairs, annual safety inspections, and provide test certificates. We hold a comprehensive stock of spare parts for fast turnaround.

Manufacturer guidance is annual servicing for all flowmeters and active scavengers. Cylinders should be inspected every 10 years (date-stamped on the cylinder). We recommend a full service every 12 months to maintain performance, comply with CQC and HSE requirements, and keep your insurance valid.
